Ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week

Wow!  I can't believe the end of another schoolyear is almost here!  I have to admit this was my most FAVORITE week of the year when I was a Kindergarten teacher!!  The gifts I enjoyed the most were the handmade ones.  The cards and pictures that kids drew and presented with an apple or a flower.  In fact, I still have many of them from over 10 years ago!

A fun- quick thing to do is have your child's teacher fill out this form so you can be sure to give a few of his/her favorites:

What is your favorite:
-flower
-color
-fast food
-restaurant
-candy bar
-pop
-beverage
-dessert
-scent
-baked good
-casserole
-sports team
-place to shop
-hobby
-any allergies or dislikes?

If you are wondering what to do for your child's teacher here are a few low-cost, high-impact gifts:

-Movie Theme- Michael's "dollar aisle" (a place I frequent) has popcorn containers or bowls- fill it with the favorite candy and beverage, add a microwave popcorn and giftcard to Blockbuster or a gift certificate to the movies.

-Book Time- Have your child create a bookmark with their picture (don't worry- teachers have quick access to lamination- we will be sure to preserve it!) and add a giftcard to Barnes and Noble with a coffee cup they have created (Michael's has the cups and markers altogether waiting for you) and maybe a $5 gift card to Starbucks.

-Hobby Heaven- If they enjoy gardening get them a giftcard to the landscape nursery with a small flower.  If it's scrapbooking - a gift certificate to the nearest scrapbooking store or find out who their Creative Memories consultant is.

-Ice Scream for Ice Cream- Have the class go in on a gift certificate to a grocery store- then fill a basket with assorted toppings, spoons and bowls.

No matter what, your teacher probably isn't expecting anything over-the-top.  Teachers teach because they love children and enjoy watching them grow.  Teachers don't get paid near what they should, but they know they are making a big difference.  Just hearing a verbal, "thank you" means the world to them!
